Learning to sell or license your ideas of games and toys

Learning to sell your ideas of games and toys is possible for anyone with talent or passion for this field and wants to bet in his/her own idea. It is a precise path in which every energy will be valued and enhanced.

TOY Academy is an educational program open to anyone that arises from the fact that many ideas of games or toys that flourish within educational, therapeutic, home or spontaneous creative contexts most of the time remain in an artisan, private dimension, in which not only they do not bring an economic benefit to the creator but, more importantly, they never come into the hands of people who could benefit from this idea.

TOY Academy is first and foremost a flexible service. Flexible means that my first goal is to make you sell your idea and make profit out of it. To do this you may only need to propose an idea already prototyped and ready for the market, but you may also want to understand how to protect your intellectual property, improve the appeal of the idea and verify its innovation compared to what is already out there. For these and other aspects that are part of the wonderful world of selling ideas, I can personally support you in virtual meetings that will guide you in the correct process on a hourly-based fee basis, so you can decide how much and when you need support.

TOY Academy is therefore basically an individual coaching path for those who have a passion or talent for toys/games but may not come from the field of designing or selling ideas. For years I have fought with the fear that proposing ideas would mean having it copied or worse stolen. But there are solutions, and I know how to make them within your reach. The toy industry is a complex sector if you are a beginner, it took me years. After more than 15 years of activity I can say that the work of ideation / invention is an activity in which the precision of the action and personal determination are key. In a moment you could dismiss the idea, making it become obsolete or waste your energy in an attempt to open doors that you don’t know how to open and with what approach.

I will follow you in an individualized path divided into steps that step by step will make you grow and learn through techniques and methodologies developed over years of activity in the toy sector. Together we will develop the roadmap that will bring your project to be “ready to be licensed” and palatable to companies, right up to the licensing agreement.

Joining the TOY Academy program means enriching your project and your education with important steps that will make you grow professionally and professionally, up to considering the sale of your ideas part of your life, also in parallel with your “other” job.

The program is organized in modules organized as follows and interchangeable according to the stage of development of the game idea:

1. How to validate your idea understanding the market category

Determine if your idea is truly innovative with a timely market analysis that will allow you to establish the USP (Unique Selling Proposition), the “market category” of your product and identify companies that sell similar products to contact later on. If you don’t have a product idea ready yet, this will be a great place to start the process.

Average duration: 2-3 sessions

2. How to define the play pattern and make a prototype

Maximize the playability and appeal of your idea so that the toy/game is truly engaging and innovative. In order to attract the attention of companies, you need to be clear about the real strengths of the game and be able to demonstrate that it is really working. If you do not have technical skills (for example in modeling or 3D printing) do not worry, I will recommend you people who will help you at low cost.

Average duration: 2-3 sessions

3. How to check if your idea infringes existing patents and consolidate it

Finding out that ideas similar to yours already exist and have been patented is not necessarily a bad news. You will find that this can actually guide you towards perfecting the idea to make it even more original and salable. Not only that, it will be a great training to become familiar with the world of patents and claims that will then be important information in filing your patent application.

Average duration: 2-3 sessions

4. How to establish the cost of your idea and evaluate its positioning so that it is salable

There are no successful ideas if there is not also a “right price”. Companies know this, so you have to be aware of what products are competing with your product idea and their price. You will need to know at what price your product is likely to be sold to the public. This will open doors you did not think about and introduce you as a professional.

Average duration: 2-3 sessions

5. How to protect your idea from copying attempts

Protecting your IP (intellectual property) is not easy if you do not know how to do it and, above all, it is not easy to do it low cost. I will teach you how to legally protect your idea, thus being able to introduce your idea as “Patent Pending” claiming its ownership.

Average duration: 2-3 sessions

6. How to contact potentially interested companies directly and how to introduce your idea

I guess you don’t want to send your project in attachment to all info@… emails. So, I will teach you how to open those doors that will allow you to find the right person to show your idea to, to introduce yourself professionally, with a strategy in mind and with marketing material that will effectively convey the USP of your idea.

Average duration: 2-3 sessions

7. How to negotiate a great deal that will make you earn in percentage on sales

Negotiating a commercial agreement is an art that is refined with experience, but I will help you with simple rules to manage this process in your best interest. Especially when you feel you have a winning idea in your hands and you don’t want your effort to go to waste. When one or more companies show interest the rule is “win-win”. You will need to be positive, professional and receptive while understanding the company’s point of view as well so that a great deal can happen!

Average duration: 2-3 sessions
